Goshen
The Historic County Seat
THE LOCALE
What it's like to live in Goshen
Goshen is the county seat of Orange County and has been since 1727 — a village founded in 1714, well before the Revolution, and still built around a handsome, walkable Main Street of vintage homes, civic buildings and the county courthouse.
What sets Goshen apart is its central location. It sits right on the Route 17 corridor in the middle of the county, roughly 50 miles northwest of Manhattan, which makes it one of the easier places in the area to commute from and to reach everything else in Orange County.
It is best known for harness racing and the Great American Weekend which takes place annually around the 4th of July https://www.villageofgoshen-ny.gov/great-american-weekend/ The Goshen Historic Track dates to 1838 and is the oldest track of its kind in the country, and the Harness Racing Museum & Hall of Fame sits alongside it. Noah Webster taught school here, and today LEGOLAND New York, the Northeast's only LEGOLAND, sits in the town.
